Program description
The grants are intended for the artistic development of professional artists. The stay abroad in Paris should enable them to acquire an understanding and knowledge of the culture of the host country, to study developments in the local art scene, to establish contacts, to exchange ideas, to gain inspiration and to realise an artistic project on site. For this purpose, the foreign partner institutes provide studios/studio apartments to regularly host Berlin artists. The scholarships are awarded in the fields of visual arts, literature and dance.

It is the task of the cultural administration to enable cultural participation and equal opportunities - regardless of nationality, ethnic origin, gender, religion or ideology, disability, age or sexual identity.

Funding period
6 months
Topic
intercultural exchange
Funding criteria
The artists are proven through their artistic work and provide evidence of this with corresponding work samples. During the stay abroad, presence on site is compulsory. The applicants live and work in Berlin. Artists of non-European nationality can only apply if their passport contains a note from the Foreigners' Registration Office allowing them to work independently.Former cultural exchange scholarship holders whose stay abroad ended two years ago can apply again. The scholarship amounts to a monthly lump sum of 2,500 € and rent-free use of the studios/studio apartments abroad. During the stay abroad, the partner institutes look after the Berlin artists and, on request, arrange contacts to the local scene. The Goethe-Instituts are also available as contacts. The events organized by the partner institutes (open studios, exhibitions, artist talks) offer Berlin artists the opportunity to present their work to an international audience.
