Program description
By awarding grants, the Berlin Artistic Research Support Program promotes artistic research across disciplines as well as exchange between researching artists* in Berlin.
Every two years, the Berliner Förderprogramm Künstlerische Forschung awards 13 fellowships to research-based artists whose practice is located in the fields of visual arts, film/video, literature, music, dance, theater, or transdisciplinary.
The fellowships run from January 2024 to December 2025 and are endowed with an annual grant of 30,000€, which (subject to budgetary release) will be paid in monthly installments of 2,500€ each.
The program is aimed at individuals and groups whose previous work has positioned them in the field of artistic research and who wish to actively participate in a transdisciplinary further development of artistic-research practices, their critique and foundations.
One of the 13 fellowships may be awarded for basic artistic research; individuals or groups conducting artistic research from a cultural studies or curatorial perspective may also apply for this fellowship.
Groups consisting of more than two people may apply for a maximum of 2 fellowships per group.
In addition to the monthly stipend, there is individual project funding for research and production, as well as budget funding for public programming.
Institution
Society for artistic research germany
Starting in 2020, the Society for Artistic Research will implement a funding program for artistic research with funds from the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. The program serves to promote artistic research across disciplines. Funding will be provided to artistic researchers with specific research projects as well as their research network within the framework of joint events. The program serves the self-understanding of artistic researchers among themselves, the ongoing critical reflection of the concept of artistic research in the sense of basic research as well as its communication to society.
Deadline
The call for proposals for the 2024/25 funding years has been completed. The next call for proposals will be in spring 2025.
Funding criteria
The applicants:
- have completed artistic training or can demonstrate several years of professional artistic-scientific activity in their field,
- have a proven track record in artistic research, have made relevant contributions to artistic research over several years, and can provide evidence of this with relevant work samples,
- are pursuing an artistic research project or a project for basic artistic research,
- wish to be actively involved in the organization of the program's public events,
- are not simultaneously receiving another grant from the state of Berlin
- live and work in Berlin; in the case of groups, the majority of the group members should live and work in Berlin,
- are not members of a university at the time of the grant.
The Society for Artistic Research awards scholarships to artistic researchers working in the fields of visual arts, film, literature, music, dance, theater, or transdisciplinary work. The fellowships are each endowed with €30,000 annually, with at least one of the fellowships to be reserved for basic artistic research. This basic research fellowship can also be awarded to individuals who have no artistic training, but who are conducting artistic research from a cultural studies or curatorial perspective, for example.
